Labels - Self-Adhesive Labels
PSL or Pressure Sensitive Labels have many applications. From food packaging to chemical drums, logistics systems to peel and reseal for cosmetic wipes. We produce an infinite combination of printed and blank self-adhesive labels in both paper and synthetic materials.
We have experienced significant growth in the usage of synthetic labels by our broad customer mix. The application, presentation and performance benefits particularly in moist or cold environments far outweigh the paper alternative. The perception that these advantages result in a higher cost is a common misconception. Indeed as a business we focus on the points of detail that mean production efficiencies are achieved whilst retaining quality across all material types.
Perhaps the most overlooked benefit is the recyclability of synthetic labels in comparison to paper. It is a common misconception that paper is less harmful to the environment when considering packaging and label decoration. In fact the opposite is true as recent studies have illustrated. Having studied the recycling process in great detail UK recyclers have confirmed that synthetic labels are separated during the recycling process and recovered for use in various polyolefin compounds. Paper labels however break down and create a pulp that has to be sent to landfill. Therefore concluding that synthetic labels are recyclable and paper labels are not.
Our technical knowledge and understanding of the recycling industry has enabled us to switch many customers to using a thinner gauge material which in turn contributes to corporate recycling objectives and in particular the Courtauld Commitment.
Reasons to switch from paper labels to synthetic labels
- Improve the presentation of your design achieving stand-out on the shelf. Hi-gloss finish
- Performance in challenging environments. Won’t wrinkle or peel
- Consumer benefits – spillages are wipeable
- Recyclability – synthetic labels are recycled into polyolefin compounds
- Standard and bespoke adhesives (hot-melt and UV)
- High quality graphics, up to 8 colours
- Combination printing including foils, laminate and varnish
- Maximum visual impact
- High application performance – line speed
- Cost – in most cases comparable with paper
- Glassine or PET liners
Materials
We use a range of quality synthetic materials for our label products in a variety of gauges including: ranging from including;
- Uncoated films ranging from 45 to 100 microns in thickness
- Coated films for better print production (clear or white)
- Biodegradable and home compostable films (Natureflex) made from cellulose a wood pulp derivative
- Earthfirst industrial compostable film made from sustainable corn oil
- Digitally printable polypropylene
- Conformable Polypropelene Giving the application and performance characteristics of PE at PP prices this film can be used in the cosmetics and haircare markets on wet and squeezable containers
- Paper and Chemi-Thermals
- Top coated and non top coated chemi-thermal papers and plastics
- Glass and cast coated papers
